St. Alban’s Episcopal Church:

Due to the recent economic crisis it has become increasingly difficult for us to afford mental health aids. The rag dolls give the victims a way to escape from the crisis that is surrounding them. Believe it or not but we have used these dolls to help victims of all ages.

The DAT Supervisor Kathy told me of a story that affected her greatly. An elderly lady of about 80 years old had lost everything in a fire. She was living on a fixed income and did not know what she was going to do. While she was crying, Kathy gave her one of your rag dolls. It was almost instinctive for Cathy who had never given a rag doll to anyone over the age of twelve. Instantly the older woman stopped crying and began cradling the doll. It was a moment of calm in the storm of that lady’s life.

Cheryl Jackson gave me another touching story. The only daughter of a young couple lost her dog in the fire. She was the same age as the dog and it had become a sort of sibling to her. Sheryl said, "I know this won’t bring your dog back but I hope this can help." The girl took the doll in hesitation but as time went on she began to cheer up.

I recently became an intern here and went out on a local fire. Fortunately the victims lived up the street from the children’s grandmother. What amazed me the most was how unaffected the children were. The daughter was 6 and the son was 4. They knew their parents would take care of them. I gave them each a rag doll and they began running around the yard with them. These were the only toys they had and they were very grateful for them.

Many more rag dolls have been distributed to the other counties we serve. We appreciate the time you take to make these dolls. Anyone can donate store bought toys but these dolls have a special personal touch.

With much Thanks,

Trenton Sims
