St. Alban’s Ministries Meeting
Part 2
February 21, 2010

Mother Cathy reported the new Salvation Army B.A.M.A. thrift store is great. She arranged for us to donate clothing there and we can give people a voucher to go there and shop. This will solve our storage issue for these things.

We need someone to coordinate use of the building and keep track of the contact individuals for each use group. We need also to reclaim the keys from people/groups who are no longer using the building, such as the Barceda Families. Becca will volunteer to be this coordinator and send the information to Deann to post on our website.

Meeting notes will be emailed to Deann also, so these can be posted on the website

The phone is interrupted by power outages and it wipes off the messages. We need someone to seek a solution. Consider a battery back-up phone.

International Outreach:
Concern: Our Diocesan connection with Botswana. We have Fr. Andrew to connect with but we have not maintained that connection and we need to. Discussion followed of the use of skype to accomplish this. Also, we will request an update on the nursery.

Mother Cathy also reported the national church is asking us to look for a little church and/or school in Haiti with which to develop a relationship. Eighty percent of schools in Port Au Prince area are destroyed along with three universities. We need to think long term. Churches supported by the U.S., Canada, France and others, run more than sixty percent of schools. There’s a group of Episcopal churches that have begun this relationship building. We can probably get the information on possible churches/schools from the Bishop in Haiti.

Michelle explained we could really utilize the Internet for our international outreach. She suggested we get a new laptop computer to use for this. There are some now for less than $400 which have plenty of memory and built-in web cams. We would also need a wireless router. The treasurer will research our funding and we will set up a “computer fund” for contributions. With this capability we would also be able to trace the Operation Christmas Child boxes so the children could actually see where their gifts are going. Deann said to check Amazonbuy.com and North Star in Bolivar for computers. Michelle, Deann and Lee S. will work on this.
