Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you:
All: because by your holy cross you have
redeemed the world.
Pontius Pilate made his decision.
By relinquishing his authority to set Jesus free, he washed his hands of the freedom
to do what was right.
It is always true that the one who washes
his hands in the face of injustice suffers
even more than the one he condemns to death. Sin is a most cruel master.
Every year 800,000 women and girls, are trafficked across international borders to serve the sexual appetites of men.
Will you wash your hands of that?
118,000 children die every day of starvation.
Will you wash your hands of that?
AIDS continues its devastating march across
Africa, leaving orphans to raise each other.
Will you wash your hands of that?
Leader: Lord Jesus, we know that we also stand by and refuse to get involved as your people suffer injustice and death because of our own unwillingness to welcome the
radically new kingdom of God coming on
earth - as it exists already in heaven.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done -
on earth.
Pilate washed his hands.
Give us grace to dirty ours.
All: Amen.
