Leader: At Golgotha they stripped him of his garments, dividing them by casting lots. They tried to humiliate him before the crowd by stripping away his clothing. But in the eyes of his Father, and others who loved him, he kept his dignity.
Centuries later, children are photographed running for their lives from
aircraft dropping napalm bombs.
A young girl suffers the indignity of having her clothes stripped from her body by an incendiary explosion.
In our mad wars, innocent children suffer many indignities - losing their parents and siblings, having their bodies mutilated, and dying
unjustly.
We call this, "collateral damage."
Leader: Lord God, clothe us all with your Fatherly love. Restore the dignity of all who have suffered and died in our many wars. Help us to overcome our addiction to war as a way to make peace.
All: Amen.
